in my minds eye

Sometimes I find great pieces that I just know will work in tons of outfits, but look sort of sad and lonely on their own. These pieces tend to be harder to market for me as I don't really do "outfit" posts, or show things styled on models. But I got sort of inspired this weekend when photographing this classic vintage shirt dress and now that I see how many things of mine it works with, I want to keep it. Believe me, if I can get my butt into it before it sells, this one is mine.

Today was going to be a big day. It starting with learning I had a listing included in my first ever Etsy treasury and was going to be followed by a day of new items added to the shop. But a nasty headache has gripped my skull and won't let go. Let's try this again tomorrow, shall we?

This is as far as I got before the camera demanded to be recharged:

A milestone

Today is our rescue puppy's first birthday. I've never celebrated a dog birthday before, because I've never known when our previous dogs were born, but today we will start a new tradition. I've put together a brief history of her year with us, which looks quite like an homage to the "cone". Here's hoping next year will be a bit calmer--- and with fewer visits to the vet.

In case of Zombie Apocalypse

This has been prominently displayed in our living room all summer, so I've decided to share. The life I save may be my own.

Or maybe, the life you save may be mine.

Remembering:

Lazy summer days spent with my friends reading, and rereading, comic books.

Look what I found!

It was just hanging there in my small town thrift store, snuggled among the Vera Bradley and wally world bags. It was 1/2 price and shoppers were just walking by, ignoring the signature Sprouse graffiti. The only thing that could make this bag better would be if it were real. Yes, it's a fake, so I won't be selling it; but it will make a tres chic cosmetic bag, no?

Progress

The painters are close to being finished. The house looks so much fresher, and my neighbors are pleased also. Having a tanned, fit, shirtless guy hanging out on a ladder outside my bedroom window is just a bonus.

Not Martha

My very first attempt at making summer rolls. I can't fold food. Not burritos, wraps, wontons, and evidentially, not summer rolls. These are surprisingly yummy (despite their green frog-like appearance) and are also simple. They are pretty much the same as a California roll: egg, avocado, cucumber, carrot, and of course, krab. I used black rice and used the sticky sauce, then wrapped it all in lettuce and spring roll wrappers. Served with soy/honey dipping sauce.

Fiji 1978

Our family vacations were awesome...

Moldy Oldy

Meet my house. It was built between 1829 and 1836 and has been used as a parsonage, a meeting house, a livery, and an income property. Now it is a home.  The paint in this photo is probably 10 years old, and has faded and is starting to peel. When I was choosing the paint, the color looked really nice on the 1" x 1" chip in the paint store. Only when it was on the house did I realize it looked like pea soup. On the up side, ours is always the creepiest haunted house on Halloween.

Today the painters arrived early to scrape and prime her in preparation for new colors, and I hope to have a dramatic before and after post tomorrow.

Today's dark and rainy weather has me thinking about dressing for fall.

I never know what looks best with my shotgun

Apparently, the persistent odor of burned pot stickers that has been plaguing me since my sense of smell all but disappeared, is actually Phantosmia. It means that my brain is tricked into thinking I'm smelling something that isn't really there.  It is either just a weird side effect of an upper respiratory infection and should fix itself  eventually, or I have a brain tumor. Either way the household is relieved they no longer have to wash the entire kitchen with vinegar.

Some silly film stills from old monster movies. The mermaid is Glynis Johns who also played Winifred Banks in Mary Poppins. I've forgotten the name of the book these scans are from... let me know if it's important and I can look it up for you.
Hanging out with the family at Caroga Lake. Late 1920's, early 1930's.

That's my grandma on the right. I would not be surprised to learn that she made her dress. I inherited her love of clothes and her shoe size, but alas, not her height or patience for handwork.
The only benefit (that I can see) to having big feet is the ability to wear mens shoes without them looking like clown shoes. I was so excited to find these at the thrift store, but alas, they are even too big for me...

Subterfuge

We are on day 11 of twice daily doggie meds. For the first 8 days she took them happily with peanut butter, then suddenly refused. Now it doesn't matter what I wrap them in-- cheese, ground beef, roast beef-- she keeps trying to spit them out. Next stop: cheez whiz.

A few more instagrams. Yes, I take too many pictures of the dog but she is such an oddball, I must document her.
